CAMCA is excited to announce its inclusion on the PANORAMA Platform!
The PANORAMA Platform was designed to be a qualitative knowledge management system and is included in the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD) COP15 decision relating to knowledge management. Through a memorandum of understanding with the CBD Secretariat, PANORAMA supports the qualitative knowledge management component of the Global Biodiversity Framework and contributes to the achievement of Target 21: Ensuring that Knowledge is Available and Accessible to Guide Biodiversity Action.
GIZ, IUCN, and GRID-Arendal helped train local project partners on how to become “solutions-providers”, and GRID-Arendal facilitated drafting submissions. There are currently over 1800 solutions (and counting) on the platform, but only 55 of these are from North or Central Asia, so including these is important to help raise the profile of mountains, pastures, ecosystems, and communities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
Sharing solutions from Kyrgyzstan
Ilbirs Foundation submitted a full solution on their approach to improving capacity for eco-tourism around Khan-Tengiri National Park, including introducing a sustainable financing model, where some of the income generated from tourism goes back to communities and the protected area.

CAMP Alatoo was able to profile their multi-year effort to support Baiboosun, a community-based protected area (or “other effective area-based conservation measure, OECM) and their work in participatory pasture mapping and incorporating wildlife migration corridors into grazing plans, which was also showcased at a recent side event at CMS COP15.

Why PANORAMA?
By providing a structured way to document successful case studies and lessons learned, PANORAMA can connect local solutions providers with both donors and other local actors around the world. PANORAMA’s unique format allows funders to focus on impacts and find “what works” for upscaling and outscaling, while building blocks facilitate peer-to-peer knowledge exchange, including how to improve through “Lessons Learned”. A multi-lingual, global platform that tracks views allows organizations of all sizes to have an online presence and promote/document their activities even after project completion.
Thanks to our partners at GIZ, IUCN, and UNEP for supporting this important step.
